About Michael Wolkind

Michael Wolkind QC is one of the UK’s most prominent criminal trial and appeal barristers. With over 44 years of experience and a track record of success, combined with a sharp wit and innovative approach, Michael has become a highly requested counsel for self-defence and householder rights.

In 1976, Michael began his career as a barrister. Later, in 1999, he became a QC. At the start of his career, he did not have a clear career path, but was instinctively drawn to helping the underdogs and soon found himself working on criminal law and defence work. The challenge they presented proved stimulating to Michael and allowed him to think creatively in the courtroom. Over four decades later, his services are requested all over the UK, as well as many other countries in the world.

Michael Wolkind has served as Leading Counsel in very many high-profile cases, such as the trials of Tony Martin and Munir Hussain. For Michael, there is great satisfaction in acheiving justice, especially when against all the odds. His expertise comes highly requested, and he has often appeared on television shows, internet videos, and documentaries speaking out against weak prosecutions. Michael is exceptionally skilled at cross-examination and the “destruction” of a witness. In fact, The Legal 500 Directory cites him as “without doubt, the best cross-examiner in the business.”

When he’s not providing counsel in court, Michael enjoys creative expression through writing poems. To Michael Wolkind, nothing is quite as freeing as the ability to become someone else through a simple shift of words. On paper, he can be anything and sound like anyone he pleases, be it a sweet, old woman or a playful child. Michael Wolkind often gets inspiration for his poems by simply stopping to talk to someone on the street and asking them how their day is going. These conversations allow him to write more freely and understand what life is like in another person’s shoes.

Accompanying Michael on such walks is his dog and greatest mate, Milo the Marvelous Cockapoo. In his young years, he was afraid of dogs—a fact his children knew all too well but were determined to change. Eventually, the family adopted a dog, Cato. Michael, still wary, avoided too much direct contact with Cato for weeks. One day, the dog caught him unaware. When Michael touched and hugged the dog for the first time, his fear was abated, and a love and appreciation for dogs took hold.
